Oh Jillian, You’ve Done It Again

I have to admit, I’m not a big Jillian Michaels fan. We’ve never met but, her antics on The Biggest Loser really turn me off. I hate the show and have repeatedly said that it is the worst thing that has happened to the fitness industry in years. However, she is loaded and probably will kick my a_ _ if we ever meet. Poor Jillian, she has turned into a fitness punching bag this week after the release of her “Kettlebell” DVD. To say the reviews were poor would be a compliment. Take a minute and check out this LA Times article about Jillian and her DVD.

The funny part is that Jillian has said she will sue the columnist who wrote it? What for, speaking the truth. Let me know what you think after you read it.

    Narina, you are so right.

Funny, does she actually have a college degree? Just curious as I haven’t browsed her resume.

  3. Mike,
Her defense is she has been a trainer since she was 17, has two certs (AFAA and NESTA which are weekend certs) and used some so-called expert (never heard of) from Kettlebelnetics (or something like that) as her advisor. She must think the fitness industry is as uninformed as the general public and TV execs.

  4. I think she is finally getting her just reward. She is an embarrassement to all fitness professionals and strength coaches. As you, I hate the show, can’t watch it and has really done a disservice to the fitness industry. But, like you say she has more bucks that all of us – so that’s what you get when have no ethics or morals, eh? A big bank account – oops did I say that with my outside voice?

  5. that just made my day!

Jillian’s response on her facebook page:

“Never thought LA times would resort to liable & defamation to sell papers. Guess I’m canceling my subscription. I hold 2 current certifications. NESTA & AFFA. I’ve also developed a continuing education program for trainers with AFFA. I’ve been a trainer for 19 years. I OWNED a sports medicine facility & worked as a trainer & PT aid for the physiatrists, PT’s, & chiro’s I employed. AND i’m a black belt.
People have been asking who the Kettlebell expert I worked with on Shred It with weights is. Her name is Lisa Wheeler. She has choreographed for Kettlebell Concepts. (1 of the KB certification programs) In addition Lisa has a BA in Dance and Theater, is certified by NASM, ACSM, ACE, AFAA, and is trained in Pilates by The Physical Mind Institute. Any more questions?”

  7. I love hearing about stories like this. It’s actually tuff to say how many people on my Facebook page post status updates on how amazing Biggest Loser is. How amazing she is as a trainer. Articles like this help to validate the working professionals who actually have a clue, who also don’t even come close to the kind of money she is making out of making a complete shamble of our profession. I would like to also add this bit of information. I am also an actor, and my agent asked me if I would like to submit to this seasons Biggest Loser as they were/are in search of two new faces on the show. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

  8. James is a funny writer. Jillian Michaels should be able to take some criticism. I wouldn’t follow her advice and I wouldn’t recommend that anyone else should either. It’s sad that doctors and “trainers” who recommend radical and potentially dangerous diets and exercise programs become popular. Every single one of them gets discredited but often only after they’ve had years or decades to spout their poison. Not that kettlebells are dangerous–I use them myself–but for someone who is not certified to teach kettlebells is dangerous. They simply aren’t used in the same way. Plus it’s not like a KB certification is impossible to get. Just google RKC and go from there, Jillian!
