We had this as kids in Ireland, we used a sponge ball and plastic rackets. We called it short tennis and did it for phys ed class
It is a good idea. Scaling should be done to fit the needs of the athletes (kids) in order to give them a better experience. It is like anything else: you have to start somewhere, and sometimes the “top” isn’t the best place.
