    I think years ago that was the case. You sound like an old timer. I can remember people using the term “dead” weight. I think now it’s much more about joint position?

  2. Hrm, for a post titled “Whats the difference?” I would have thought there would have at least been some discussion about the fact that the deadlift initiates from a dead, lift. Thats why its named that. Its a purely concentric movement. Whereas the squat has the normal lift pattern of eccentric/concentric. Yes, some people eccentrically drop the deadlift on the way down. And paused box squats are sorta concentric only too. But along with the hip vs knee that you mention, that’s the difference.
