Strength Coach TV- Episodes 14 & 15

In Episode 14 of Strength Coach TV, I visit Todd Giorgi in Scarsdale, NY for a tour of Revive Fitness Studio. Revive is a great example of a small studio doing big things.

In Episode 15 of Strength Coach TV, I visit Don Saladino in New York City for a tour of Drive 495. This is a beautiful facility that caters to golfers right on Broadway in Soho, NY. A good lesson in customer service from Don and his brother Joe.

The Week in Review

Posted in Random Thoughts, StrengthCoach.com Updates, Training Females, Uncategorized with tags , on November 4, 2011 by mboyle1959

This was a busy week. Last Friday I got up at 4:30 AM to head for Arizona and the Meeting of the Minds. What a great conference. What impressed me most was that the presenters sat through each others talks. It was impressive to see so many great minds listening and thinking about getting better. It’s always great to be around so many people you like and respect.

On Sunday after a few beers at Saturdays’ social I got up at 4 AM to head back and catch my daughters hockey game. I cam back to an October snowstorm and a power failure. We spent two nights camped out by the woodstove in the living room.

Tuesday I headed down to Quinnipiac University for testing for our US Women’s National Ice Hockey Team in preparation for the Four Nations Tournament in Sweden. Got to see my friend Brijesh Patel and an amazing athletic complex. To top it off, the girls killed the testing again. It is amazing to watch all these women, many of whom benched 135 for reps and did 10 plus chinups.

Wednesday I headed back to Boston and topped off the week with a Wednesday night talk on Training the Baby Boomers at Winchester Country Club ( Kevin filmed this for BodyByBoyle Online).

Finished yesterday with a staff meeting and some TRX Rip Trainer demos.

Last but not least, Episode 91 of the StrengthCoach Podcast is up. Check it out.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July, at least those of us in the US. For those overseas I hope summer is going well. I’m enjoying spending time at the lake and write this as I sit in front of the local public library using a free Wi-Fi connection.

The great stuff on StrengthCoach.com just keeps coming. Anthony Renna continues his excellent StrengthCoach TV series with a visit to Joe Dowdell’s Peak Performance facility in New York City. Joe has a really unique business so be sure to watch Episode 10.

In addition, Anthony Donskov has yet another article up called, interestingly enough, Seals and Shoulders- Its a Balancing Act that has some great shoulder info.  We also have another shoulder article simply called Rhythmic Stabilizations from MBSC staff member Dave Rak.

For our soccer ( football) readers we have an interesting original article and a link to another. First is an article from site member Phil Hewitt called Smoke and Mirrors Training that describes the process of getting strength and conditioning done in the soccer world. We also linked to an excellent and maybe slightly disturbing article on the Ajax soccer development system written by Warrior Girls author Michael Sokolove, called How a Soccer Star is Made.

The last thing we have for you is a video of one of my new favorite exercises the 1 Leg Deadlift. After you watch this, make sure to give it a try.

As always, lots of great stuff to read and to watch on StrengthCoach.com. Make sure to take a few minutes and log on. Remember, if you have questions just  log on to the forum and ask. Don’t be shy.

The Last Two Weeks on StrengthCoach.com

Posted in Core training, Injuries, StrengthCoach.com Updates, Training with tags , on June 1, 2011 by mboyle1959

It’s been two weeks since our last update so I apologize. I’m really going to try to get out one per week but, with me you never know. I went from the Staley Seminar in Arizona to Charles Stephenson’s Basketball Specific Seminar in North Carolina so I’ve neglected the internet side a bit.

As always though we had lots of great stuff on the site.

Robbie Bourke of Dublin, Ireland started us off with some great video of his favorite FMS Corrective Exercises

Justin Levine followed up with 10 Workout Strategies for Fitness Professionals

Bruce Kelly added Training Program for a High School Squash Team

Anthony Renna added Episode 80 of the StrengthCoach Podcast with Josh Henkin

Chris Frankel and Andrew Vontz brought us Heartrate Training for the Strength and Conditioning Coach

Anthony Donskov added to his growing list of articles with 10 Things I lLearned in 2010

and I added my annual Handicapping the Perform Better Summit in Providence.

As I always say, lots of great stuff to read. Make sure to take a few minutes and log on. Remember, if you have questions just  log on to the forums and ask. You never who’ll answer

New Webinars at Strength and Conditioning Webinars

Posted in Core training, Seminars, Training with tags , , , on September 7, 2010 by mboyle1959

I just wanted to let you guys know that Anthony Renna has posted a bunch of new webinars at Strength and Conditioning Webinars. He has new ones with Gray Cook and Nick Winkelman. Gray’s newest one is Why Screen? Why Not Just Good Programmin? I listened to Gray talk about this on the Strength Coach Podcast and he might just have me convinced. I’m going to talk to my staff today about performing the FMS on all our athletes.

Nick’s is Mixed Methods of Power Development and is the same presentation he did at the perform Better Summit. If you haven’t taken a look at Strength and Conditioning Webinars I strongly recommend you. This is a great site if you are too busy to attend seminars or, if you currently lack the funding.
